Statement concerning the recent dismaying activity during the Summer Spectacular:

Recently, it was brought to our attention that some NYCHA members took items from various vendors during the 2015 Great American Insurance Summer Cutting Spectacular.

First, most, if not all, of these items have been or are in the process of being returned to each vendor.

Second, I have spoken to the youth members involved and they have expressed extreme remorse for their actions. The members involved reached out to each vendor and took complete responsibility and apologized. Each of them admitted that this was an act committed out of peer pressure, and each has personally apologized for their actions and assured me that this is not an issue that we will ever face again.
As for their promises, I believe them.

As the youth director, I expressed my disappointment in this behavior that is not tolerated by our association. I also expressed to them that I still believed in them, and that they still had a chance to turn this situation around and gain back a lot of lost trust. I am personally holding each member accountable for his or her future actions. I truly believe this was a learning process for all parties involved, and we are going to use what we have learned to avoid this problem in the future.

While we feel that this situation has been addressed and is under control, NYCHA officers and the NCHA Youth Committee will be addressing our conduct and discipline policies to ensure we do not have instances like this in the future.
